I hope you’re all enjoying the warmer weather we’re all getting in the northern hemisphere.

Here's what is going on:

Five Two Simplex Challenge​
Back at the end of February, Mike N2MAK put a video out about his Five Two Simplex Challenge. The idea of the challenge was to get more activity on 146.52 MHz, the National Calling Frequency for 2 meters, not to make contacts. As with my POTA videos, I wanted to share my experience of what actually happened each day of the challenge. So, I shot videos for each day and then combined them into one video for each week of the challenge. I started on March 1st and went all the way to day 56 (my OCD wanted to complete the entire 8th week).

So for the length of the challenge, I filmed myself calling out on 52 each day. I had more days with no contacts then I had days with making contacts, and I was OK with that. It’s just like any aspect of amateur radio. It’s all about timing; who’s listening to the same frequency at the same time that you are throwing out our callsign. Some days I was able to make multiple contacts. Some days I called out only once, some days I called out multiple times.

The video for Week 8 premieres TOMORROW night, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 19:50 EDT (23:50 UTC).
