🫈Spring into the Five Two Simplex Challenge

03/26/2026

Hello everyone!

I hope that you're doing great and getting on the air! Spring is officially here and it is getting warmer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Here's what is going on:

3 Weeks into Five Two Simplex Challenge
So far I have completed 3 weeks of Mike N2MAK's Five Two Simplex Challenge, calling out on 146.520 MHz every single day in March. Some days I make a contact or two, some days I do not. I am currently in Week 4 and I'm anxious to share the results with the next video in this series that will be out next week.

This challenge is not about making contacts. Watch Mike's video again (link above). Nowhere does he mention making contacts. "...join me and call out on 146.52 simplex for 52 days." You have 61 days, as the challenge runs from March 01 to April 30, 2026. You don't have to do it every day. Do it when you can. Do it from a 5W HT or a 50W mobile radio. Results will vary based upon power, time of day, location and if anyone else is listening *when* you put out your callsign.

Why am I recording my activities for this challenge? For ACCOUNTABILITY and PROOF of what I did. Hopefully this inspires others to just get on 146.52 and throw out their callsigns.

Warmer Weather
As you might have noticed, I have some different content on my YouTube channel so far this year. This is partially due to the weather being cold and a blizzard or two rolling through, but also I've always said, since the beginning, that I would do videos about other amateur radio subject matter.

Some topics have been easy to come by this year, it seems. HamClock Launcher for Mac, a Raspberry Pi 5 review & install of OpenHamClock, and the Grid from SolarCDX.

I have 4 POTA videos to get done and will probably get backlogged with more now that it's warmer out and I'm heading out more. I also have another new and an old product review to do, a special surprise video, and my weekly results of the Five Two Simplex Challenge (mentioned above). And as I make my first trip to the Dayton Hamvention, I'm sure I'll videos on my trip getting there, while there and from my return trip back to my QTH.

I appreciate all of your continued support to the channel.

05/22/2026 Well, I am back from Hamvention and I was worn out after getting home. I needed a vacation from my vacation. A lot happened and I met a lot of great people! Despite a few harrowing moments on my trip to and from Dayton Hamvention, I survived! On The WayTo make the trip less stressful, I split the drive there and back into two days each. The trip to my overnight stay was mostly uneventful... After getting off the Interstate to get to my hotel on Tuesday in western Pennsylvania, a...

Road Trip to Dayton Awaits

05/08/2026 Hello everyone! HAMVENTION IS ALMOST HERE! Are YOU going? Hamvention 2026I am making my first ever trip to Dayton Hamvention this year. I have been wanting to go for many years now and this year all of the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. I'm heading out Tuesday and leisurely making my way to Dayton and sometime on Wednesday I'll be rolling into town. If everything goes right (nothing like waiting until the last minute before testing this out), I'll have my AllStarLink node...

04/27/2026 Hello everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying the warmer weather we’re all getting in the northern hemisphere. Here's what is going on: Five Two Simplex ChallengeBack at the end of February, Mike N2MAK put a video out about his Five Two Simplex Challenge. The idea of the challenge was to get more activity on 146.52 MHz, the National Calling Frequency for 2 meters, not to make contacts. As with my POTA videos, I wanted to share my experience of what actually happened each day of the...
